Landeszentrale für Medien und Kommunikation Rheinland-Pfalz
(LMK) is one of the 14 media authorities responsible for TV, radio and internet in Germany, located in
Rhineland-Palatinate. Among its tasks is the promotion of media literacy and media education, aiming at enhancing competent use of the media by children and adolescents. The LMK runs (in cooperation)
the Media Education Research Association Southwest (mpfs), which has been providing up-to-date research outcomes on media literacy advancement and media use of children and adolescents in Germany for
more than 10 years. The LMK has since 2004 been implementing the German Awareness Centre klicksafe and since 2008 been coordinator of the German Safer Internet Centre, both within the EC’s Safer
Internet Programme.
