My Child Online Foundation [Dutch: Stichting Mijn Kind Online] is a centre for knowledge and advice in the area of youth and (new) media, which aims to provide greater insight into the opportunities afforded by new media, as well as to promote the responsible exploitation of these. The Foundation’s activities are aimed principally at educators and children.

What is your / your institution´s interest /objective for being part of POSCON?

There is a big need for a good discussion about quality content for children. This discussion should take place on an European level. We feel honored to contribute.

What is your / your institution´s interest regarding positive content in general?

Mijn Kind Online has initiated the childen’s browser MyBee (www.mybee.nl), a white list filter leading children to quality websites and games. It is not enough to keep children away from harmful content, they (and their parents) need to know what is good, so what they can see will enrich their life and gives them the opportunity to develop a taste for quality content, they can find out what they like and what not.

What are your wishes regarding positive content and services for children?

They are a lot of apps, sites and games for children. It is difficult to find the right ones, as a parent or teacher. We see that more gateways emerge, helping grown ups to make choices for children. But we need only that. I wish that producers find each other more, inspiring, helping each other to bring children’s content to a higher level.
